I decided to play around on photoshop. This only took me 40 minutes or so, but it would be nice to spend ages on something to see my full potential. Underneath the apocalypse image is the original photograph I took on the London eye last year.

Ticket Time Bomb
I am currently on a placement with a Digital Marketing Agency called MOBIUS, which is based in Rochdale. I have just finished creating a logo for a new voucher website called 'Ticket Timebomb.' It has been a nice little opportunity to develop ideas and get lots of good feedback. There were lots of changes (but minor ones) to achieve this final result; it is not quite my style but you have to listen to what other people want for their website!
I was also asked to create a mini animation, so I had a fun time playing around on Adobe Flash. I have been practising a lot with Flash recently, I think I have the whole fan-fandangled animation side sorted. Any sort of coding, and I would possibly be sick at the moment.

MOBIUS specialise in web design (which terrifies me) but I am happy that I will learn something, because we never learnt web development at uni. So far i'm enjoying it here..

David Guetta: Sonic Super Hero
- This was created for the BBC Radio 1 documentary 'David Guetta: Sonic Super Hero,' that airs on Monday 23rd July at 9pm.
This was a week long deadline. It was originally hand drawn in pen that was scanned on to the computer to digitalise. It was a very open brief which I thoroughly enjoyed. I wanted to express his passion for his music through his posture, whilst looking very cool and iconic as the DJ he is today.

Photo Restoration
I have never done photo restoration before, but I knew I could do it. I decided to experiment and add colour on the final one, just to see how it turns out. It looks quite nice being subtle.

Serious drawing.
I have realised that I haven't done 'serious' still life drawing in quite a while. Most of my drawings are light hearted illustrations, so I am going to do a still life a day. I think it is important to keep skills like this because it allows you to keep hold of your eye for detail, lighting and scale- which is important as it is adapted to graphic design too. Even though it is an Instagram quality photograph, this is the first still life drawing I have done for a while. I aim to fill this mini sketch book, scan it, and publish the whole sketchbook on Issuu.

Boredom doodles
I draw little sketches when i'm rather bored. They are only tiny drawings. I took the photos with the glory that is instagram, because they are usually binned and I don't scan them. My name on instagram is cathbennett and I post stuff like this quite regularly.

Photoshop Painting
I decided to paint 'with light.' My influence came from the Disney scene when Cinderella is dancing in the clouds with the Prince. It was all drawn in layers upon a plain black background. I could add more to the background, but I want the main emphasise to be the girl dancing and the colour. Its bold but quite simplistic at the same time, considering the amount of things I could have incorporated into the picture.

Saturday doodles.
So I thought I would draw a couple of pictures on this fair Saturday afternoon. They are done in biro pen so they aren't particularly neat; more like glorified doodles to be honest. The first one is a photo that I found that was really nice taken- unfortunately I forgot the photographers name. I elaborated on the illustration from the original photo. The second is Alex from Madagascar, I fancied drawing a cartoon. Bad quality pictures really, but thats instagram and a crappy phone camera lol. I might scan them in the future.
Doodle power.
I thought i'd just post these, because I always bin doodles. They are instagram quality pictures so they aren't the best quality.

Little White Lies: The Woman In Black
Front cover and spreads produced for the Little White Lies magazine.
Spread one: traditional Little White Lies patterned introductory spread with experimental typeface. |
Manipulated photographs with my own quill/ink handwriting incorporated into the spread. |
My own illustration and a very basic grid layout for the spread, incorporated with my own handwriting. I kept this spread very basic to reflect the Victorian era. |

Grimm book covers
The selection of books were created for my final project of my Graphic Design course. They are aimed at adults, as the stories that I designed the book covers for are very gruesome and dark. The type and imagery are made from twigs and branches to represent the dark locations of the books, whilst the imagery reflects the gory nature of that particular book. They are kept bright so they lure the reader in when they stand on the shelf. The blurb on the back is simply a quote from the book, which makes the reader want to read more. The raven incorporated into the design represents death.

Grimm covers x372874
At that point when you create 50,000 versions and you can't decide which route to take. This is my latest one. It was originally a black and white photocopy which i've changed repeatedly on photoshop to look like blood- the blood is basically the shadow that has been turned from black to red on the photocopy through contrast/hue/etc

Super Smashing Intern Poster
So I thought I would give the poster brief a bash, because I am particularly fond of their print based design. One of their design pieces I remember, was the series of posters that were designed for the New Cartographies exhibition last year at the Corner House. I love the colours that are used and the boldness- most of my work is rather bold so I think they are a nice inspiration. Heres the poster for the brief; I aimed to keep it simple and design related, yet bold! The tool that is displayed is the 'Crystallise Tool' on Adobe Illustrator, which looks quite like a 'smash!'

Grimm: possible finals
This is a bit of my current project, adult Grimm fairy tales. It may change yet because it isn't finished. The aim of this was to design a set of covers that are appealing, yet contain darker motives; for example, knives embedded into the delicate patterns that are featured in the story.
Concept designs/delicate booklets.
1 book jacket design.

Grimm Fairy Tales
I'm currently deciding what route to go down with my work, but this is one of my favourite pieces/development work so far. This theme aiming to make the book cover pretty/innocent from a distance but on closer look; is actually quite dark. Aiming for simplicity in this theme, one book design from a set. In this design for 'Clever Hans,' there are knives, goat skulls, needles and eye balls.

The Woman In Black
A development portrait of a scene from the film. I rarely do portraits; I was aiming for a victorian etch/cross hatch/old look.

Potential Logo?
Self branding. Maybe i'm jumping too far ahead just whipping one up in a small space. I want to use a logo of some sort because my full name is way to long. I'm thinking more of a website really, I want my website to be really minimal. I don't want it to be boring type/really restricted, because its not what i'm about. Sod complying to things lol.
Its basically self explanatory ( I hope lol). Engage pointless, patronising explanation:
C + @ (at) = Cat, add a little ear on the 'c' and the @ coloured in pink to represent a nose = a cat face/my nickname. Better than trying to get a whole 'Catherine Bennett' into a minimalistic logo! I done so many variations using different characters, but this is my favourite one.
